Where did your name come from?

My name is Surekha and it consists of two words – Su and Rekha .

Su means good, beautiful and Rekha means lines .

A person named Surekha signifies someone with an artistic bent of mind, someone who can draw well.

But leave aside  sketching, holding a pencil is also a challenge for me 😂😂.

When I was in fifth grade, my drawing teacher glowered at me and in his booming ear piercing voice which I still distinctly recollect said , your name is Surekha and you can’t even draw a line.Who kept your name Surekha?

I never liked my name and I would always complain in a rather petulant and whining manner to my parents.

My Aai would patiently listen to my querulous tone and say , such a pretty name it is.

When I got married, as was the custom in most Indian families , my husband wanted to change my name.

For the first time in my life, I realised that my name is my identity, it reflects my individuality .

Since that day I have made peace with my name and Surekha it is,                     was then, is now and will be forever.
