What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?

Every person keeps evolving and changing , and I am no exception.

I have changed a lot . My attitude , perspective, belief, view point, outlook, convictions , orientation, position about my thinking about life’s philosophy.

One major topic is the sensitive topic about reservation based on caste . Earlier I was anti reservation, but joining college, I have realised that in my country inequalities are deep rooted and social change is a long drawn process and will take years to happen. Till then,there is no alternative to reservations.

Another topic I have changed is the use of gender sensitive language. I need to credit my son Sujay and his friend Manvi for it . I would loosely use terms like ,’ Female ‘ while addressing a girl or woman instead of taking her name . My son made me realise how derogatory it is to women .

One more major topic, I have changed is my belief that a woman is the woman’s worst enemy . Cliches like , mother’s in law being more venomous than father in law , or a mother favouring a son over a daughter or even how female bosses are more tough than male bosses .

But now I have changed my view and accept that women have been suppressed for generations and their behaviour needs to be analysed before making general sweeping statements.

One more realisation is how entitled I am, being born in a so called upper caste, upper strata of the society and never have really not faced discrimination , bias and bigotry .

Hence I have become more humble and I have stopped judging anyone based on stereotypes and postulates.
