What is your favorite genre of music?

I love melodious, soulful music with meaningful lyrics.

One of my favourite. RD and Gulzar combination has given us so many immortal songs

Bollywood movies have always focused on song and dance sequence. There are hardly any movies without songs . Hence the music of Bollywood is always a criteria for a film to be a hit or miss.

The 50, 60, 70 era , I feel was the golden age of music. The melody of music directors like Naushad, Shankar Jaikishan, Roshan, Chitragupta, S D Burma , Kalyanji Anandji,and ofcourse the unforgettable and one and one Pancham , and a rare female music director – Usha Khanna just to name.

Each song is a pearl woven in a necklace of melody and tranquility.

The lyricists like Shailendra, Shakeel Badayuni, Anand Bakshi, Gulzar , Neeraj, Anjaan, Hasrat Jaipuri, Sahir Ludhianvi , Kaifi Azmi , Yogesh , I can recollect without much effort is the proof that each one of their song left a etching impression on me

60 , 70 carried forward the musical journey

How can I not mention the singers , their beautiful and euphonious voices would make you sad, or burst out laughing, whose voices could make you believe in love and romance. The voices which could make you go into a slumber . The voices who could plunge us in the devotion of the almighty. The voices which could arouse, stir almost all types of emotions sentiments feelings or just make us go in a reverie. Those voices of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Mohammad Rafi, Mukesh, Talat Mahmood, Manna Dey, Mahendra Kapoor, Suraiya, Noor Jahan, and last but not the least Saigal.

I don’t want to pass any judgment on the music which is being churned out , maybe they don’t touch my soul, like the earlier songs . Well listen to the song below and that’s the fact I guess

Past is gone forever, only memories linger .

    • Sure will. Thanks Sanjay for your recommendation. Rahul I feel comes from such a strong classical music background. I would really like him to sing more classical songs like his grandfather Vasant Deshpande.

  7. Agree totally. We dont have songs like we had in 50s.0s and 70s! Though over the later decades there are a few gems too but rare ones. Earlier songs were unforgettable. In recent songs a few that I loved and can immediately remember are:
