In what ways does hard work make you feel fulfilled?

Can you succeed in your life without putting in hard work is the moot question we need to ask ourselves?

The reading connoisseurs will recollect William Somerset Maugham short story , “The Ant and the Grasshopper”.

The fable of the ant and the grasshopper expresses the irony of life . The fable is a story of two brothers. George resembles the ant and Tom, the grasshopper. This fable aims at explaining the moral that a person who labours hard is rewarded but a man who is easy-going and averse to labour is punished.

So George was to be happy and richer and Tom was to be poor and he was to suffer.

But the opposite happened. The contrast between the story of the fable and the happening in this story makes the reality more striking.

The millennials and Gen z today are believers of smart work rather than only hard work. How is smart work different from hard work, well I can’t comment 😄.

The point I am trying to make , by the above 2 illustrations is , Is hard work too tomtomed and can life be successful and smooth without going through the grind and drudgery ?

And what if you are born with a silver spoon, then don’t , opportunities knock at your doorstep all the time whether you are ready or not?

I , being from the so-called entitled class of society grew up with sermons of discipline and hardwork.

Being laidback and unambitious was looked down upon. I was expected to excel whether exams or my career.

Even after I got married, the expectations from me didn’t dim and it was expected that I would be an ideal wife, a helicopter mom and a loving daughter in law who was expected to keep the family’s interest at the utmost priority. And the only Guru Mantra , I had to be this super woman was by working hard and by not letting any sloppiness or laziness creep into me.

I am nowhere doubting the efficacy of hard work and efforts, my only suggestion is each one of us has different expectations or we have different theories of life .

Let’s decide for ourselves what is that makes us happy and contented and if that happiness can be got only through hard work, so be it then.
