‘Love Story’ by Eric Segal

What book could you read over and over again?

I first stumbled on this book at an impressionable age of 13. And the only reason which made me glance through the book was the title – Love 😁.

All you need is a little bit of love ā¤ļø

Love Story seems deceptively simple and a short book to read ( If you compare it to my other favourites authors books like Margaret Mitchell, Ayn Rand, Margaret Atwood), but it is not so.

Everyone would have, at one time read, ‘Love Story ‘

Two young college going girl and a boy , full of promise and intelligence, fall in love and begin their storybook life together – or so it seems. But alas, the fates intercede in this too perfect union, providing a tragic and unhappy ending. Indeed, there are plenty of Kleenex moments in the book as the likeable and quick-witted Jenny is stricken with an unnamed cancer, eventually succumbing to the disease in a heart-wrenching hospital scene one cold winter’s night.

I laughed. I cried (and believe me. I cried a lot!). I fell in love. I learned. I simply love the book. It was indeed beautifully written and it reached out into the depths of my soul. My heart just poured out as I read the last few pages of the book. Such a tiny book to stir such great emotions in me.But it was the emotions in the book which made it worth reading.

The book is alluring, humorous, impassioned, moving . The tragic end and the stoic acceptance of her fate by Jenny is heart rending and stays with you after you put down the book .

The reason I keep getting pulled to Love Story is that despite the tragedy, the book is an epitome of enduring love

Being profoundly besotted by someone gives you fortitude, while loving someone intensely gives you courage.

“We are most alive when we are in love.” “The only thing we never get enough of is love; and the only thing we never give enough of is love.” “There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.”
